On January 30, 2025, at the GSIS Building in Pasay City, the Global AI Council of the Philippines convened leaders, educators, innovators, policymakers, and community representatives for SONAI 2025. The gathering brought together people from across sectors and generations—teachers beside technologists, students in dialogue with officials, and entrepreneurs listening to civil society groups. It felt less like a formal summit and more like a national assembly where every voice mattered in shaping the country’s future with AI.
At its heart was the Statement of the Nation in AI (SONAI)—a declaration that artificial intelligence in the Philippines must be guided by ethics, inclusivity, and respect for human dignity. The statement was crafted through months of consultation, ensuring that perspectives from classrooms, barangays, businesses, and research communities were all represented.
SONAI 2025 also marked the release of the Philippine AI Report, the nation’s first comprehensive assessment of AI readiness and opportunity. It became a shared reference point: candid about the challenges ahead, but also full of pathways for progress if pursued together.
